At the core of the Upcycling Trust project is the Community Land Trust (CLT)/Organisme de Foncier Solidaire (OFS) model, traditionally used to create new affordable housing. We are now applying the CLT model in a new way: as a tool for energy renovation.
On 16th of May, communities across the globe are joining in celebration of the strength, creativity, and diversity of the Community Land Trust movement. World Community Land Trust Day is a shared occasion to acknowledge the transformative work being done, from creating permanently affordable housing to advancing land justice and community-led development.
But this day is more than a celebration. It’s a chance to connect across borders, share local experiences, and illustrate the impact of CLTs as they evolve in diverse local contexts. World CLT Day also offers an opportunity to share how we’re innovating with the CLT/OFS model through the Upcycling Trust project.

A Global Voice for Community-Led Housing
Advocating for housing justice, Bernie Sanders - US Senator - speaks to the growing importance of CLTs as practical, community-driven solutions to rising inequality and speculative pressure on land and housing, not only in the United States, but worldwide. His remarks highlight the global relevance of CLTs and reinforce the call to invest in housing systems that serve communities, not markets.
