Join us for an inspiring event exploring how the model of Community Land Trusts (CLT) and Organismes de Foncier Solidaire (OFS) offers a powerful solution for cities and regions across Europe to tackle the dual challenge of climate resilience and housing justice.

The event will present how the Upcycling Trust energy renovation project funded by the Interreg North-West Europe programme led local and regional authorities in Brussels, Ghent (Belgium), Cork (Ireland), Lille and Rennes (France) to accelerate the deep energy renovation of homes with one-stop-shop and circular methods, while safeguarding housing affordability for low-income homeowners facing speculation and renoviction.

Through the case of two renovation pilots in Brussels presented by the local administration and retrofit practitioners, learn about the legal, financial, and technical instruments used to apply the CLT/OFS model for removing land from the speculative market to preserve affordability while supporting the energy renovation of homes.

During a short panel followed by a Q&A, it will be the occasion to exchange directly with representatives of local and regional authorities, CLT and OFS non-profit housing organisations and retrofit practitioners about their experience throughout this project and practical recommendations to replicate the Upcycling Trust model across Europe.

The event will provide insights about the role of CLTs in providing communities agency in creating affordable housing in Europe, and the recommendations made by the European CLT Network for increasing their recognition and support in the upcoming European Housing Affordable Plan.

Participants will be able to discover one of the housing project sites of the Community Land Trust Brussels (“Arc-en-Ciel”) where the event is hosted and hear the testimonies shared by residents of the St. Gilles neighbourhood benefitting from the retrofit pilots.

Stay tuned for the detailed programme announcement coming soon!

As part of the EU Week of Regions and Cities 2025 - Close to you sessions, the event is hosted by the Community Land Trust Brussels and its Upcycling Trust project partners, with the support of the European Community Land Trust Network.
